Nine acts from around the Southeast will be performing on three stages during this celebration of women artists in Americana music. GALA COMMUNITY THEATER Presents A Murder Mystery Dinner Theater
Every drama group has experienced the horrors of what can go wrong on opening night and the ladies of the F.A.H.E.T.G. Dramatic Society are no different, with the possible exception that almost everything that could happen does. The scenery collapses, cues are missed, lines forgotten, and the sound effects take on a strange note at times, as the ladies present their ambitious evening's entertainment with the cunning whodunit, "Murder At Checkmate Manor". And just in case the audience should get bored there's a Film and Fashion Show and Murder Mystery Quiz complete with Prize. The crunch comes in the denouement when the "murderer", about to be revealed, has to rush home to bandage up an injured daughter. But Mrs. Reece, doyenne of the group, rises above the slings and arrows of outrageous dramatics to save the situation and provide the final inventive twist.

Tallahassee Bach Parley Guest Artist Concert: William Porter, organ
J.S. Bach “The Art of The Fugue
The Tallahassee Bach Parley, Tallahassee's baroque music ensemble that performs on period instruments, continues their concert season with guest artist William Porter, organ, performing J.S. Bach's “The Art of the Fugue.” William Porter has a distinguished performing and teaching career of organ, harpsichord, and improvisation and currently teaches at the Eastman School of Music and McGill University. Mr. Porter will perform "The Art of the Fugue" on the Taylor and Boody organ at First Presbyterian Church, 110 North Adams Street. The concert will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, March 14. There is a suggested donation of $15 for adults, $12 for Bach Parley members, and $5 for students and children. Membership information will be available at the concert. Free childcare will be available and the concert is open to the public. The Tallahassee chapter of the American Guild of Organists will host a reception after the concert.
Widely known as a performer and teacher in the United States and in Europe, William Porter has achieved international recognition for his skill in improvisation in a wide variety of styles, ancient and modern. He has taught and performed at major international festivals and academies, including the North German Organ Academy, the Italian Academy of Music for the Organ, the Smarano Organ and Clavichord Academy, Organfestival Holland, the Göteborg International Organ Academy, the Dollart Festival, the Lausanne Improvisation Festival, the Festival Toulouse les Orgues, the Boston Early Music Festival, the Oregon Bach Festival, the McGill International Organ Academy, Eastman’s Improvfest, and the National Convention of the American Guild of Organists. He is organ consultant for the Constellation Center, a new performing arts center to be built in the Boston area, which will house several organs in different styles. He has recorded on historic instruments, old and new, for the Gasparo, Proprius, BMG, and Loft labels.
The Bach Parley will present their final concert of the season, “D'amore and More” on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at St. John's Episcopal Church. This concert will feature Parley members on period instruments and will feature Melissa Brewer playing Vivaldi's concerto for Viola d'amore as well as Kim and Evan Jones playing a Vivaldi double cello concerto.
The Tallahassee Bach Parley performs on period instruments to more closely replicate the experience of baroque music as it was performed hundreds of years ago in smaller settings. Baroque instruments are tuned to a lower pitch than modern instruments, and the string instruments use gut strings, which gives the music a more transparent sound and intimate feel. At most Bach Parley concerts commentary is provided before each piece to give the audience ideas about what to listen for in the music and to make the atmosphere more relaxed.
For additional information about the Tallahassee Bach Parley and future concerts, visit www.tallahasseebachparley.org.

Tallahassee Genealogical Society Spring Seminar
Tallahassee Genealogical Society would like to invite the interested public to attend our annual Spring Seminar. The seminar will be held Saturday, March 13th from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church’s Alfriend Hall.
Our keynote speaker will be Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck who is an author; Staff Writer for Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter and has recently retired from the Dallas, TX Public Library System where he worked as the Supervisor for the Genealogy Section since 1973. Under his leadership, Family Tree Magazine named the Dallas Public Library System as one of the Top 10 Public Libraries for Genealogists in the Country in 2002. Also, for seventeen years, Mr. Bockstruck wrote a weekly genealogy column for the Dallas Morning News. Elizabeth Mills and the late Dr. Gary Mills, editors of the NGS (National Genealogy Society) Quarterly, wrote: “The name Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck is synonymous with modern genealogical education. His dry wit, wide range of subject matter, and fail proof knack of imparting exactly the kind of information his audiences need combine to guarantee a full house at Bockstruck’s lectures and seminars.” Our seminar will cover topics such as Colonial Migration patterns, how church records can aid in finding your ancestors, how to find the maiden names of women and common research pitfalls.
Tallahassee Genealogical Society will also host a free Research Day in the Florida State Archives on Friday, March 12th, 2010 from 9:00-4:00 p.m. We will begin with a tour of the Archives at 9:30 a.m. and help will be on hand to assist beginning researchers throughout the day. This is a great opportunity for new researchers to pair with one of our members to get a one on one help in unraveling their family story.
TGS is pleased to have Mr. Bockstruck speak to our Society and lend his many years of expertise to family researchers in the North Florida and South Georgia area.
For more information you may go to our website at www.talgen.org or contact seminar co-coordinators: Melissa Corson (850) 893-9764 or Carolyn Harvey (850) 524-5334.

Tallahassee Film Festival Kicks Off Third Year!
TFF Expected to Drive Economic Boost, Film Contest and Family Fun for April 2010
TALLAHASSEE, FL – After playing hundreds of films to thousands of visitors in its first two years, the Tallahassee Film Festival (TFF) will return April 8-11, 2010, to Florida’s Capital City. This year’s festival is themed See You in the Dark and will feature pre-selected films, workshops and lectures for film enthusiasts throughout the weekend.
TFF not only celebrates the talent of industry professionals, but also offers students and emerging filmmakers a creative outlet and excellent networking opportunities. These up-and-coming filmmakers come from all over the world, including New York, Los Angeles, Singapore and Afghanistan.
“Since 2008, the Tallahassee Film Festival has enhanced the Capital City’s reputation as a cultural hub,” said Carolyn Smith, Chairman of the 2010 Tallahassee Film Festival. “We’re attracting people from all over the world who are interested in our festival because we’ve chosen high-quality, cutting-edge films and world-class talent.”
In 2009, Bohemibot, one of the festival’s featured shorts, won a 2009 Student Academy Award. Next Floor, the first screening at last year's opening night, won Best Short Film in the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. Last year's festival also featured the world premiere of the short Chimera, which introduced the “time dust” effect, invented by Academy Award-winning effects master, Stuart Robertson.
The festival’s goal is to continue building the reputation of Tallahassee as a major player in the film industry while boosting the local economy. According to a “Soul of the Community” study by the Knight Creative Communities Institute, social offerings like entertainment venues are the number one reason Tallahassee residents love their city.
Film festivals are a proven way to stimulate local economies by attracting visitors who consume accommodations, food and transportation. In 2009, the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah supported almost 2,000 jobs and funneled an estimated $92 million to the state with nearly $4 million in tax revenue, according to Sundance spokesperson Amy McGee.
“The Tallahassee Film Festival has the potential to foster incredible growth in arts and entertainment and will continue to attract emerging and world-renowned filmmakers to this area,” Smith added. “We are extremely grateful for the community’s support over the past two years and are excited that the 2010 festival will be our best year yet.”

You can also preview films and learn how to enter the wildly popular 48-hour Film Contest, which has been a staple of the festival since its inception. Contestants are assigned a theme, a prop and a line of dialogue required in their submissions, along with a $100 budget and a mere 48 hours to create, shoot, edit and submit their entries. The Tallahassee Democrat then posts all entries online where viewers can vote for their favorite and help decide the winner. The winning entries will have their films played during the festival and receive a cash award and trophy.
So keep your eyes open. The Festival plans to capture local attention prior to the event by staging movie scenes around town at surprise times and locations. “See you in the dark!”

Theater Directors Needed
We have an urgent need for directors to direct our upcoming St. Joe Children’s Theater and GALA Community Theater productions. We had a lot of success this past year with our theaters. In order not to loose momentum, we need to keep them going. Directors receive a token fee of $3-700 and, of course, our and the community’s sincere appreciation. If you are interested or know someone who is or might be, please contact Don Ouellette by replying to this message or by calling 850-229-2748.

Florida Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Kidsfest - a family festival with hands-on activities for children, bounce houses, a 22' Giant Water Slide and much more. Last year 3,500 people attended the event and this year's Ninth Annual Kidsfest proves to be the biggest and best yet!
Sponsorship opportunities are available through February 28 and provide an excellent way to market your company. Entertainment applications are being accepted through February 15 for individuals and groups wishing to provide performances suitable for children and families.
Exhibitor applications are being accepted through March 1 for businesses and organizations to provide hands-on activities for children and are an inexpensive way to promote your products/services (there's no fee to be an exhibitor). It's a cost-effective way to market your business in today's economy and set yourselves apart from the competition!
We've heard from many past sponsors and exhibitors who have indicated they received new business as a result of their participation in Kidsfest. In today's business climate, where else can you have direct contact with a large cross section of area residents? While the kids play, you can talk with the grownups!
