Madison, WI (PRWEB) January 07, 2013
Students are invited to enroll in the University of Wisconsin Flexible Option pilot program. It is the first public university competency-based, self-paced pilot in the country. Tuition for this pilot program will be covered by full scholarships for the first 100 participants.
The University of Wisconsin Flexible Option, unveiled last November by UW System President Kevin Reilly and UW-Extension leaders, is a more accessible and affordable way for working adults to reach their education and career goals. Students can try the new learning model and earn college credit at no cost by participating in the pilot. The pilot is administered by the University of Wisconsin Independent Learning Program. Courses available include College Algebra, Elementary Statistics, and a noncredit Business Math and Personal Finance Certificate.
Upon enrolling in the pilot, students work online and at their own pace as they progress through each course module. Students can take full advantage of free educational resources available online, including the growing number of massive open online courses, or “MOOCs.” When ready, students demonstrate competency through online assessments. Students who show mastery can finish in as little as two weeks. All students in the pilot have until June 30 to complete the program.
“If you would like to complete your bachelor’s degree and are wondering whether the UW Flexible Option is right for you, I encourage you to talk to one of our advisers, and try the UW Independent Learning Flexible Option pilot as a first step,” said UW-Extension Dean David Schejbal. “This is an opportunity to get credit for what you know or what you are able to learn on your own.”
Since the number of enrollments in the pilot is limited to100, students are encouraged to register soon. To register, please contact a Student Services specialist at 1-877-895-3276, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. CST, or visit il.wisconsin.edu/flex/.
