Florida State Women's Athletics and FOX 49 Partner To Help The Fight

Florida State Women's Athletics and FOX 49

Tallahassee - TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State women's athletics teams are joining forces this season with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare for their annual "Paint it Pink" campaign. During the 2009-10 season, six women's sports will host a 'Pink' game. Teams will don such items as pink shoe laces, swim caps and jerseys during their respective `Pink' game to show support for the cause. Proceeds from each 'Pink' game will be donated to the Tallahassee Memorial Sharon Ewing Walker Breast Health Center at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare as well as the WBCA Kay Yow Cancer Fund in honor of the late NC State women's basketball head coach.

"The family of Sharon Ewing Walker, who fought a courageous battle with cancer that ultimately claimed her life in 2005, established the Breast Health Center in her memory to provide women in North Florida and South Georgia with diagnostic services and support for the detection and treatment of breast cancer," said Christy Harrison, RN, Administrator of the Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center.

The funds from "Paint it Pink" campaign will enable the Tallahassee Memorial Sharon Ewing Walker Breast Health Center to reach more women with its comprehensive array of services which include digital mammography, early diagnosis breast cancer counseling, patient navigation and image recovery services.

"Statistics tell us that cancer has touched the lives of every student and faculty member on our campus in varying degrees," said FSU Deputy Athletic Director Kellie Elliott. "We in the Athletics Department are pleased to be able to raise the exposure of these worthy causes. Out student-athletes are usually quick to volunteer for community service projects, but they have an especially strong commitment to the 'Paint It Pink' effort."

Fans will have the chance to contribute to the cause all season long through fundraising and educational activities at each event. Fans who donate a minimum of $10 will receive a commemorative t-shirt and online auctions will be held at Seminoles.com with `Pink' themed memorabilia including game worn jerseys. Donations of any amount will be accepted at each `Pink' event. Free Pink shakers will also be given out at each event. Come out and support the Lady Noles and donate to a great cause!
